Michael Smith: Bringing His Expertise to Estee Lauder

Michael Smith serves as the Senior Vice President, Information Technology and Chief Information Officer of The Estee Lauder Companies. He was hired in 2017, after taking a one-year sabbatical to be present for his son’s senior year of high school in a way that he was unable to with his previous work at Mylan. He brings nearly three decades of experience and expertise to the company, and he’s proud to continue working with Estee Lauder for years to come.

At The Estee Lauder Companies, Michael Smith reports directly to Tracy Travel, the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the company. When he was hired, Ms. Travel had the following to say during a press release interview:

Michael Smith is a respected leader who has served as the CIO and Senior Vice President of The Estee Lauder Companies since he accepted the position in late 2017. This was one year before Michael Smith accepted his role with The Estee Lauder Companies. Mr. Smith’s decision hinged on not being able to see his son compete in the State wrestling tournament, which was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity he was forced to miss due to professional obligations. This event led him to turn in his resignation and take a year off to be there for every important moment of his son’s senior year in high school so as not to miss another once-in-a-lifetime experience as a father.
